What is crochet thread used for?

Crochet thread is a wonderfully versatile product that can be used for many different types of projects. What types of projects can be done with crochet thread?

Home Decor
My favorite use of crochet thread is for making home decor, particularly flowers. I started making flowers with yarn but quickly switched to thread because the thread is thinner than yarn, thus it allows you to make more detailed, delicate items. For flowers and other home decor’ this is perfect.
For the projects below I used our Monaco crochet thread. Monaco is a 100% mercerized cotton crochet thread made in the Philippines.

Doilies
A doily is an ornate mat, typically made of fabric. It is used to protect or decorate surfaces such as wood or glass tables. They are characterized by open stitch work, which allows the surface of the underlying medium to show through.
Doilies are a favorite use of crochet thread because they require small, delicate, intricate stitches. Given that crochet thread is thinner than yarn it is perfect for doilies.
Another benefit of using crochet thread over yarn is the that crochet thread is mercerized giving it much more vibrant colors.

Table runners
Another popular project for crochet thread are table runners. A table runner adds color, texture, and interest to your table and is the foundation for your table decor. Table runners also protect your table from spills and damage that can be caused by hot pans and dripping candle wax.
Creating table runners from crochet thread gives them a more intricate, delicate appearance.
Aunt Lydia’s has many table runner patterns that you can make using either there size 3 or size 10.

Shawls and Wraps
Shawls and wraps are one of the most popular projects for crochet thread. While you can make them with yarn or thread, using thread will yield a lighter and thinner shawl, which makes it perfect for warmer weather.
Since most crochet thread is made from mercerized cotton the shawls and wraps made from them are washable. Check the label on thread to see if it is machine washable or hand wash only, and follow their recommendation.
